Mas Media
The definition of mass media is not universal. I believe mass media to be a means of communication that distributes information. The concept of mass media varies depending on the individual. Marshall Mcluhan stated that a fish does not understand water until it is beached. The individual does not understand the utilization of media without a close inspection.

There are a variety of medium's that have their own methods. Cool media requires participation, and hot media does not. Consequently, there are different tactics to captivate an audience. Multimedia a prime example of an technique called amplification to intensify meaning and to ensure that the public understands the message. Media is an extension in which we perceive the world around us. The television is an extension of the eye, a cell phone is an extension of the ear.

"Publicity turns consumption into a substitute for democracy...The world smiles at us. It offers itself to us." (Berger, 150) Individuals can decide for themselves how much the media will affect their lives, which is indeed democracy. We are by no means forced to purchase products, despite persuasive commercialism and trends. Mass media is the way in which an individual interprets contemporary society. There is no obligation to consume goods and pay for services, but the media does plays a role in everyone's life in some degree.
