Get Magic Workstation and you can play online and with others for free. I've done it before. It works well.

Getting the program set up nicely is a slight pain but if you set aside half an hour or so you can do it.

ive been using that for like a year already haha. yeah its cool. though i havent played in a while. i was actually thinking about getting back into it yesterday... but then im like...i have no money... and then i got sad... i really wanna play standard so bad haha. ill start getting some recent card knowledge back up though then we can arrange a metalisfav game or something whoever wants to play.

I always play budget decks anyway. Depending on the format there is usually a strong budget option, followed up by a few decent budget options. If there really isn't anything then you can always throw together a Gx rogue deck which is usually plentifully versatile. It just has to survive whatever is in the meta with useful cards and sideboard, and beyond that you just make it pack a big punch mid/late game with Pelakka Wurms or whatever you like.

i love u cuz thats exactly what i do. i always go rogue budget... works for friendlys, but any hardcore deck would still cream me. the only thing i can say is that i built an interesting deck with a cool concept. dont get me wrong. i love that, but i would also like to win. basically money has prevented me from ever entering a standard tournament.


this is the deck i designed in the fall i was gonna try to win some matches with. it worked fairly well against other budget decks, and also vampires (which were pretty strong at that time). but if you didnt get the cards u needed every match you were basically fucked and so i never entered. REALLY budget deck though. i think u can get all those cards for like under 20 bucks minus the dual lands (i was lucky enough to have those already)

Oh wow that looks like a fun deck. I feel like making a new budget deck. I don't really know what the metagame is like right now. I haven't even played the best decks. I think when you understand the metagame well you can make good budget decks, but I've never really took the time. I have an older elf deck and an almost legal...maybe legal goblin deck. I was about to make a Gr rogue deck, but I didn't. It was a cool deck because it used pyroclasms to deal with any aggro deck (+lots of other things), but then it could switch into a pure strength deck with the sideboard. All the cards didn't mind pyroclasm so it was sort of a "I can handle aggro decks, but I can also be strong" kind of deck. Not as strong as a control deck though...or doubtful. It was great against aggro, and probably pretty good against mid-range decks even though it didn't have the expensive creature cards. I just wanted something other than aggro that was good and budget. I think I might try something like it again.

i dont know the metagame at all right now. i havent payed attention to the last two sets. even if you know the metagame, with a limited budget, your never in a good spot. you got to get REALLY creative. My deck was fun but didnt really have the ability to be really competitive. my local scene is pretty good so i would have had no chance at fnm.

im getting back in though... so im looking forward to what possibilities are out now. you should join that site that i linked you. i used to be a legend on that site till i stopped being active apparently. (someone called me a legend for some reason. i made a deck that could summon cards outside the game..like pikachu- totes illegal but it was for the lulz). so yeah. its helpful. i dont know how active it is now though. but im gonna start using it again unless its overrun by newbies.
