From all this 2012 business. I thought it was a coincidence that I found this articles. Hmm interesting

With all the 2012 talk, I thought this might be interesting.


Massive asteroid impact: Asteroids and comets crash into our planet all the time, with varying degrees of damage. The last big one was 100 years ago in Siberia, but in such a remote area that no one died.

Yet scientists keep finding new evidence of medium-sized impacts that caused at least regional devastation — near New York harbor around 300 B.C., in eastern Canada about 11,000 B.C., the famous Meteor Crater in Arizona 50,000 years ago.




Massive volcanic eruptions: An alternate theory for the low, flat, featureless Martian northern hemisphere is that huge lava flows simply erased any previous features.

Similarly, there's good evidence that the dinosaurs back on Earth were killed not by an asteroid, but instead, or additionally, by enormous eruptions in what now is India.

Even moderate eruptions, which kick up huge amounts of soot and dust, blocking sunlight, can have climatic effects. [color:3cfc="Red"]The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines significantly cooled the planet in 1991-92, as did Indonesia's Krakatoa in 1883.

[color:3cfc="red"]More effective was Mount Tambora on the other end of Java in 1815, which cooled things so much that Europeans called 1816 "the year without a summer" — it snowed in June, and summer frosts killed crops across the Northern Hemisphere.

Nuclear war: Few people have uttered the phrase "nuclear winter" since the end of the Cold War, but it was a very real fear during the 1980s.

The notion was that a full-scale nuclear war between the Soviet Union and United States would kick huge amounts of dust, smoke and soot up into the atmosphere and blot out sunlight for months or even years, causing mass extinctions as most plants died and most animals starved.

Life has squeaked by in such instances in the past, but the deadly post-nuclear radioactive particles carried around the world could land a deadly second blow on the surviving organisms.




Black hole: Bottomless gravitational pits from which not even light can escape were first theorized in the 1960s, but since then they've been "spotted" throughout the universe.

It's now thought that every spiral galaxy, including our own, has a supermassive black hole at its center.

Smaller black holes are formed by the collapses of large stars, and can be expected to keep moving in the same orbits around galactic centers as they did before the collapse.

The problem is that we'd no longer be able to see them, and would have to watch the behavior of other astronomical bodies to figure out where they might be lurking.




The expanding sun: If all else fails, the Earth will almost certainly come to an end in about 5 billion years when it falls into the expanding sun.

It's perfectly natural — stars like ours simply turn into red giants near the end of their lifespans, and their inner planets become toast.

Terrestrial inhabitants need not worry, since they'll be boiled off much earlier by the sheer heat of the growing star.

Some scenarios say we've got only a billion good years left on this planet — rather gloomy, since life in some form has been around for about 3.7 billion years and this means we're already close to the end.

actually mankind already survived one big hit by an asteroid.
as for black holes - a lot of stars also have "super-massive" black holes and those are the ones that worry the scientists

You forgot the world is heating up everyday ... Lets see ice + heat = One hell of a lot of water .. Can you swim ??

First Global Warming is a ****ing joke
go look at some articles from both sides and you'll realize its just some scientists being douches and not giving all the facts

secondly the volcano things is a real positiblity
on the discovery there was a show called supervolcanos
there are like 10 throughout the world and they're huge
theres on in the us in Yellow Stone
Its almost the size of the park and if it erupted it would cover the whole U.S.
the rest are mostly in the ocean but the big island of Hawaii is one too

Why do you think global warming is a joke?

lol i live above the one in yellowstone

the earth goes through cycles just like most living things
during these cycles the CO2 levels and heat will go up in the same trend
BUT what scientists that support global warming don't mention is the fact that CO2 is about
300 years behind heat levels
meaning that if anything CO2 follows tempurature not the other way around

Most of the graphs that Global warming activists like to show are not complete
many of the show actually the opposite but they pick the parts that show what they want to try and convince you of
the famous graph that supports global warming (shows that the tempurature has rinsen with the increase of humans and automobiles, etc)
actually disproves it
if you look at the same graph dated back millions of years (atmosphere samples were drawn from ice in the nort pole) it shows a pattern
the tempurature goes up then down then up then down
we should be lucky to be at the top of the slope because the bottoms is a ice age

and if you want to hear something else ask your parents about when they were growing up
when scientists thought we were actually going to be in a ice age RIGHT NOW

learn yourself some facts if you think its real but don't look a just sites supporting or disproving
look at both and compare
if you do that its pretty obvious

not exactly it will get colder for a little while longer but then it will heat up
the earth has been doing it since the earliest scientists could find
all this bullshit about us doing it by releasing CO2 and other greenhouse gases it stupid
we acount for under 10% of the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere
yeah we should recycle and stuff
but we have almost nothing to do with the climate
the most we'll do is maybe change a storms directions a little because of the heat from our cities

that makes alot of sense actually ejaffin

But still, its warmer in New York then it is in Buffalo

i think its warmer in new york because of how many people live there
buffalo has alot of people but nowhere ever nearly as many as new york city

Thats from my Chem II teacher
he was a firm supporter of global warming before
but started to research it and found all the lies in it
he was probably one of the best teachers or speakers i've ever listened to
he wanted to teach us not to just look at what we're told to make decisions but to research ourselves
and he used that as an example and he has a lot of **** about it

yea he sounds like he is a good teacher

he is amazing as a teacher for classes
but for one on one help he is terrible
he acutally refuses to do it most of the time
