Are you late to the Deafheaven party or is this something you've been into for a while? I remember they were seriously taking off right when Sunbather came out. That said, I'm appreciating this more because it sounds like if Alcest took off into the more metal direction than the direction they took with Shelter. Not a bad thing at all.

Interesting opinion: seems to be that there's this huge love/hate chasm whenever Deafheaven's invoked. Compared to other bands in the genre, they're not necessarily innovating. They've got a formula that works and went for retaining that post-metal edge above all else. I'd say they go good alongside Downfall of Gaia, another band that isn't pushing any boundaries but has a pretty solid sound.
