The Drill Sarg. in Full Metal Jacket

Let's try to get into the habit of posting scenes that can convince others to watch films here. This is a good way to show off good movies if you do not want to review them.
This is at least 90% improv, which is extremely unheard of for a Kubrick film

If you haven't seen Full Metal Jacket and you're in your 20s, you've been living under a rock.

How would you rank Kubrick's films? I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut just yet.

1. A Clockwork Orange
2. Full Metal Jacket
3. The Shining
4. Dr. Strangelove
5. 2001 A Space Odyssey

Neither have I, nor 2001: ASO. I believe The Shining - as monumental as it is - is terribly overrated compared to A Clockwork Orange. Full Metal Jacket gets the representation it deserves. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is obscured beneath the rest. I'm a sucker for the gallows humor that it presented and I haven't seen much of the same ilk before or since.

If I had to rank the four, it'd go something like:

Dr. Strangelove
A Clockwork Orange
Full Metal Jacket
The Shining

That's pretty much what it's like too. I am army, so it is a bit different, but they really destroy you haha.

They are never mean, it's perception. Every thing they do is for a reason, whether you realize it immediately or not.


I never had many bad experiences, I was a quiet kid in basic. I saw a kid get hemmed the fuck up with some fists though because he decided to leave live rounds in his weapon after getting off the range. I had to push once till I puked because I farted while a drill was giving a class, that was fun.
