I agree wholeheartedly, even if it only exacerbates the issue of corporate sponsors dotting the rank and file of Congress. Another versatile, progressive minded and honest party may very well cause the Democrat/Republican dichotomy to diffuse, much akin to Britain's current party system (which works about as well as Parliament in Canada, just with a stronger arm).

I'm ready to see real issues and challenges; not the same old abortion/gay rights/Christianity vs. Atheism debacles. Let this perceived third party mark the execution of social justice warriors masquerading as politicians and bring about a government with a heightened sense of responsibility.

i hate the "voting before you even know the issue" crap this country likes to do. i hope this would help stop some of that shit.. and also stop the "us vs them" shit. people will hate other people just because of what party they associate themselves with sometimes...which is ridiculous. it divides the country

Third party doesn't work in our system. I don't mean that in a "oh our parties are too ingrained into our culture to be challenged" type thing but rather that our political system can only really support two major parties. If a third party did rise up and became a legitimate choice, it would either completely replace one of our existing parties or they would be absorbed into whatever of the two major parties is more similar to it.

I'm not sure I follow. I can agree with the outlandishness of it all (Whigs, Know Nothing, etc.), but I'm not sure that the American government is so black and white that it will only support two opposing ideologies. History vindicates your assessment, but something's got to give. Perhaps it's the perception of three parties that makes Americans stop and think about their elect - something they likely don't want to do unless it's so shamelessly polarizing.

It's all due to the way our votes are counted. As far as I know, the UK is the only other country that has our system that has three parties, but their system isn't exactly like ours.

We have two major parties. Then an even more left wing party called the NDP passed the liberals in votes last year because their leader had an extreme amount of charisma. He unfortunately died weeks after the election
