| Some of the worst books you have ever read, in your opinion. I think mine, by far, is The Great Gatsby, I hated that book with a passion. I only sort of laughed when the guy punched his wife in the face because she was being bitchy. | |

| The secret life of the bees is the most messed up thing the main character is girl who was raped by her father and killed her own mother by accident when she picked up a shotgun and shot her mother. Her only friend is a black woman who sells honey. then theres some racism, and more rape. I actually read it because I had heard it was the worst book ever. | |

| The Secret Life of Bees wasn't bad, I just really didn't care about anything that was happening.
The Catcher in the Rye was extremely boring.

| The Great Gatsby was fucking horrible. So was the Scarlet Letter. That book just pissed me off from start to finish. And the House on Mango Street was horrible. I don't give a rat's ass about how hard life is in America for illegal immigrants. | |

| The Wars- Timothy Findley What a heaping pile of shit. Only entertaining part was the gay 4 way rape scene that was so vigorously described.

Kant's critique of pure reason. Just try to read that. If you haven't killed yourself and have made it through the first 15 pages, I'll be your sex slave. Sex slaves are forever. |

I actually really like The Scarlett Letter. I thought it made interesting commentary on religion and small town surveillance. I thought Hester's transformation from a scarlet woman to a town hero was interesting, as was the guilt that ate the priest. The ending was suiting. The movie version with Demi Moore completely ruins the novel. Even so, I had to take the "author, Hawthorne, into consideration. Despite the book's seemingly "strong female" message, he was quite sexist and jealous of female writers of his time. I did not mind Catcher in the Rye...all the books you guys are naming seem to be "necesary school books". Other than the Mist. Unless things have changed that much... Byd you are right, The Wars was not that great of a book. Aside from school must-reads (I think people treat books that they are forced to read differently) I have only hated a few. Most of them books I HAD to read. I cannot even remember their titles because I dismissed them but there are a few I stopped after a few chapters. Rare but I could not continue with Original Sin. I can think of books that were DIFFICULT to get through but I loved the ideas-such as Julia Kristeva's Freudian-like theories.

| There were some interesting aspects to The Scarlet Letter, and the overall commentary of the book was good, I think I just disliked Hawthorne's writing style. It's been awhile since I've read it, but I remember disliking his overall sentence structure. | |

You definitly need to get used to books of that period to like the stucture, it's overly dramatic. You guys have read the Bible? Besides, it's full of sex, lies, violence and big beards. Like any good story should have.

"It can be said, in one way or another, that freedom, ie the rights of man, are inalienable, therefore natural to the individual, henceforth they must be protected in all scenarios, even if, FUCK FUCK FUCK"
