| I'm sure you've all heard about it by now. America is the leader so far in helping the nation out, as we should be. I don't really know what sending aircraft carriers and military planes over there will do, but as long as it helps.
A lot of my friends are Haitian, and have family members that are still missing. I've personally met some of my friends' cousins and relatives that are still in Haiti, some missing. The death toll is expected to be around 300,000 last time I checked.
It's a sad story, really. The "border busters" are even thinking of changing the Florida immigration laws to allow for easier legal immigration of Haitians. If they do not do this, the influx of illegal immigrants will undoubtedly lead to the creation of a show called "THE BORDER BUSTERS: STORIES FROM THE FENCE." :suspect:
What are your views on the situation? | |

| Immigration is something that not everyone see's the same but right now the people of Haiti need help . That is the only thing that people should care about . Giving what they can to help . You can send money with pay pal if you have a Ebay account .. |

| I'm glad they are changing the immigration laws. All the immigrants I've come into contact with are really nice people, and most of them are hard workers. They aren't the stereotypical guys you see sitting around the house all day snorting cocaine.
They work hard and barely make a living. They are living multiple families to a house.
They might cost us a little more in taxes, though they don't pay them, but I think it's time we take to heart the saying "life isn't fair, get used to it." I'm tired of people complaining about the immigrants. Americans detest communism, yet if someone from a communist country crosses the ocean on a raft in their desperateness for a better life, then we want to send them back because we think they're criminals and pigs? I'm talking more about the Cuban population here, but the Haitian immigration "problem" is similar.
Man, fuck people. | |

| Well the Cuban immigrants, especially the ones who came over in the 80's-90's, were the rich Cubans who fled because they were basically crooks under Batista. | |

Man, fuck people. The one thing that hurts the states are the gangs that come with immigrants , Also . No they dont pay taxes but they can go to the INS and get a green card and do it right . I have a buddy that came from mexico , He came here for work . He went to the INS and told them he was living in the dirt and the gangs had taken over his town . He did the tests , he Did everything by the book .. Now he has a green card , He pays his taxes and he is making a life for his self . If immigrants do it the right way we should all be happy to have them , help them . But if you come here and you hide from the INS take jobs and never try to become a amrican , We shouldnt want them .. |

| I think it's the obligation of American, as a strong and wealthy nation, to help countries in need. So needless to say, I think it's great that we have people doing everything they can. The plus side of that for us is that we can spread democracy/free values. I think the fact that our country helps out gives people a better view of our way of life. I'm sad to hear that Haiti was demolished though, I saw some pics and there are so many people trapped and killed under rubble. | |

| They were the people that Castro put in jail after taking power. Usually because they were leeches sucking the whole country dry and selling it to Americans... | |

| ok about haiti - that shit is simply fucked up. that just shows the preparation of a nation and even more the willingness of others to help out. and the rationality in that help. because you can help to the line where it doesn't endanger your own. and i'm saying this with a reason because maybe a year or 2 back our government sent a plane to help out with the fires in greece while 7 or 8 of our firemen were being burned alive on an island, and having that plane could have helped them a lot.
and on the subject of cubans. has any one here lived on cuba? has any one here jumped the border from cuba to USA? from what i know that's not exactly the case. basically it is true that some were saving their ass from the little ppl, some were criminals and some were running to save their hides from the political system. now sth about that political system that you don't understand is what it meant to be in it. i can tell you partially since yugoslavia was a communist country, and josip broz tito and castro were in good relations from what i remember. so mostly i don't blame the ppl that wanted a more fair system, if not for them then for their children. and since we're already jumping from topic there are a few older guys here that can witness what kind of bull was happening in the 80s and 90s. rnrc is one of them and he probably remembers ppl jumping the borders to germany, austria and switzerland with all of their possessions in 2 plastic bags. and maybe he even remembers the whole east germany - west germany thing that was basically the same deal. all in all to conclude - the socialist regime had it's pros and cons just like every other has, but the big problem in it was how you thought. if you weren't with the party, you were a problem and as such you probably ended up on an island breaking rocks, in some snow covered wasteland digging up coal and uranium or in jail waiting to be exchanged for 3 cans of food to someone that needed a moving shooting target. so ppl jumped borders. well the little ppl did it because of those reasons. but this is really going off topic and if you guys want to discuss this further into detail you can open a separate topic.
so the disaster that hit haiti... |

| Well, in all honesty you can't compare any of the former satellite states to Cuba. Mainly because the former satellite states had communism forced on them, and as a consequence, the governments that were put in place were pretty... um... brutal. I did live in Cuba for about 6 months, and my own political ideology aside, they love Castro. And you have to compare Castro to Batista when you evaluate the communist government in Cuba, and compared to Batista, Castro's a saint. | |

| actually this wasn't the first time i heard that comparison. and the satellite states were mostly puppets. but there were also a few that opposed the cccp, and if you look at like 1982 to 1984 the chances of WW3 were higher than ever. anyway trying to bring us back to some form of a topic - just heard that the UN has ordered the evacuation of all medicine personal. only one doctor is left and he's a correspondent for CNN. so much for un helping out as much as they can. so yet again un fails |
