Whether it be the sonnets of Shakespeare (who, incidentally spelt his surname six different ways, but never in the widely accepted form I’ve used) the poems of Poe, maybe some general fiction in the vein of horror or fantasy novels, or hell even just some old porn magazine, let us know what you are reading at the moment and your opinions on it.

I’ve just finished “Under the Dome” by Stephen King, and I have to say it’s the best thing he’s written in many a year. Not up to “The Stand” level of greatness, but a damn good yarn nonetheless.

Not a big OSC fan, ain't gonna lie about that. Having said that, The Women of Genesis series was a decent read, and interesting concept for a set of novels.

Right now I'm about to start re-reading The Dresden Files series. I'll read other things inbetween, but I plan on reading them all again before the new book comes out next year.

The Demon Awakens by R. A. Salvatore. I love most of his books and the genre. I read several books a year and nearly all of them are fantasy.

Some of Albert Einstein's letters I believe. I don't read hardly at all but I should read more. I tend to go for nonfiction books though. For fiction I kind of stick to visual media.

Da Vinci code totally killed my faith for god. Good luck with reading it it's a really good book but my advice is to read Angels & Demons first since from there the whole saga starts from and I think Angels & Demons was better

Dan Brown sucks. The amount of inaccuracies in his works is untrue, and he is hardly a great wordsmith.

i thought it was entertaining. i didnt take it as a factual book, more as though it was a treasure hunt.
i guess its becuase of that one or two pages in the front, exclaiming how all of it was true. whoops
other than that, still interesting

Metal Hammer is going the way of Kerrang. Its emo. The Subterranean section is barely even underground anymore.

Terrorizer has great features, a decent (and rather large) review section and the CD always has at least a couple of tracks worth listening to. Worth it if you can get the money.

Yeah I saw that the covers feature some sweet bands, and I've looked at some of their CDs that had a suprirsing selection of obscure bands. I also love posters, so if each issue comes with a poster I'm happy

Don't have time to read on the side when school is on, but I just finished Hamlet (again) and MacBeth (again) and am on to Richard the II. Also just read Edgar Huntly: Memoirs of a Sleep Walker and Hobomok, do not reccomend either. Also reading Anthology of Classical Mythology and Criminology and Material Cultures...god damn school!

About Dan Brown, I read all his books years ago to see what all the fuss was about and they are obviously not about character development or anything very serious at all. They are fast paced and the wording is so repetitive but it was not boring enough to put down. Just goes to show you do not have to be a great writer if you can write a book that reads like an action movie.

He was a terrible father so I personally love when Hamlet makes the jokes about him after he is missing aka dead. He thinks Ophelia is a skank and hints at it all the time in his conversations with her. She's not a strong female character but I liked her so screw Polonious, Hamlet's mistake was righteous despite what it causes and the mistaken circumstances of it all.

I'm going to play Devil Advocate. If he wasn't a good father why was Ophelia so upset when he died? Sure if a parent dies your going to be sad. But she went absolutely mental when he died. Surely if he was a terrible father then Ophelia wouldn't have been so crazy and sang songs like she did. I can't remember what she sang or I would mention it. All I remember is her saying "He is dead and gone" or something like that.

Next question

Do you think Hamlet actually loved Ophelia? Or do you think he only really wanted to prove a point at strategic times?

I don't think Ophelia was totally going nuts over her father. This can be argued, but I think it was that Hamlet seemed to be in love with her and then rejected her...GET THEE TO A NUNNERY. One could argue that she respected her dad even though he was a dick, just because he was rude to her does not mean she would wish him dead or be glad he was dead. I think it was the mix of his sudden demise (it was pretty random) and then learning Hamlet is nochalant about her...two men in her life are gone, so she goes off the deep end. And that is really debatable...he seems to actually be more obsessed with his mother in an Oedipus-complex sort of way. I think loved her somewhat, as he is quite distressed when he finds out she killed herself (or did she???) but that could just be guilt instead of a lost love feeling.
There is a few things that do not make sense in the plot...I think Claudius starts planning Hamlet's death with Laertes before he finds out R & G are dead. Something like that, I wrote a short paper on it two years ago..

Why must you do this? lol
That is such a random thing to assume, did Big Brother tell you this? That is such an assumption, Hamlet is pissed at Claudius and various others the entire play. This isn't a M. Knight Shamalon book.

Is Hamlet actually crazy? Or was he acting

I have an idea I'll let you pick Dies. Here's what I have laying on my shelf to read.

Friedrich Nietzsche- The Birth of Tragedy and the Case of Wagner
Sophocles- the Theban Plays
Dante- The Divine Comedy
Joseph Heller- Catch 22

I have an idea I'll let you pick Dies. Here's what I have laying on my shelf to read.

Friedrich Nietzsche- The Birth of Tragedy and the Case of Wagner
Sophocles- the Theban Plays
Dante- The Divine Comedy
Joseph Heller- Catch 22
A Giant stack of Robert Heinlein books.

Well, I'm a Sartre and Rand fan, Neitzsche is a little bland in his expression, so skip that. The Devine Comedy is rubbish, you should burn it. I'll all about the fantasy, Sci-Fi isn't me, so I can't comment on Heinlein. Nor have I read Sophocles.

Catch 22 it is then. It is a stunning novel.

Why must you do this? lol
That is such a random thing to assume, did Big Brother tell you this? That is such an assumption, Hamlet is pissed at Claudius and various others the entire play. This isn't a M. Knight Shamalon book.

Is Hamlet actually crazy? Or was he acting

It is just a theory, there's countless amounts of them. He just seems a bit too upset about his mother remarrying. I am also not the only one who thought this. I saw a film version of Hamlet, (maybe the Mel Gibson one) and Hamlet kisses his mother in the beginning. Romantic kiss I'm talking about. Which does not make sense considering his "incestious sheets" comments but eh. Depends how you read some of his conversations with her.

Hmm, I think he is faking because he goes from being totally fine with Horatio to crazy with Ophelia. If he was actually crazy he could not have really done anything...hm, well I guess he kind of didnt. He avoids the hit that was ordered on him and he doesnt do anything really nuts...the Polonious kill was a mistake. His treatment of her isnt really mad, just tempermental. Ophelia definitly goes mad, Hamlet never gets to that point. So its debatable but to avoid being indirectly killed by Claudious, he would need to have some sense of what is going on.

lmao sourcing a Mel Gibson movie

I agree that he was acting. I think he progressively just gets more pissed off and stops caring about life, which is why he decides to act more
