Metal:Ensiferum - Definitely one of my favorite musicians period. It's a fantastic mix of Folk Music and Metal and it just sounds so amazing to me.

Norther - Definitely my favorite melo death band. Sorry CoB. Petri is just incredible, and the songs never go stale. I love Alexi and the guys and CoB, but their newer albums have been a little lackluster and a lot of their songs have been starting to blend in. Norther is just insane, I love them. Interested in seeing how they will sound with Petri gone.

Sonata Arctica - Their first few albums were some of the most powerful, straight up power metal I have ever heard. Now they are going for a more symphonic and progressive sound, and I love it as much as I love their first few albums. Very, very talented songwriters and musicians.

Equilibrium - It's symphonic black metal inspired Folk Metal and it's insane. I can play either of their albums from start to finish and it's an amazing experience. Each song complements the others, and it makes the album seem more like one giant song, or story. Even though I can't understand the lyrics, I love their vocalist.

Megadeth - My favorite Thrash Metal band hands down. Dave Mustaine is a genius at the guitar and his songwriting is top notch. I know there are at least 4 albums by them that are utter masterworks, and they've even come back with a few newer albums that didn't disgust me completely.

Black Sabbath - The founders of Metal as we know it. Tony Iommi's guitar work is just phenomenal, and I love both Ozzy and Dio. Both incarnations really blow me away, because they know how to write a song that just gives you that overall sense of joy. It's mostly dark music of course, but I can't help but smile when I listen to them.

Non-Metal:[
The Doors - You all knew this was coming. The Doors is my all time favorite band hands down. In my opinion, it was the metal before metal existed. It challenged the happy flower power themese in most music, and instead substituted a more dark, truthful, sound. It's hard to describe their genre, but I would call them blues rock. But they are so much more than a blues rock band. They have jazzy songs, they have soft crooning songs reminiscent of Sinatra, they have psychedelic masterpieces, and they have high powered general rock songs. I actually believe VR would fall in love with these guys if he hasn't explored them much.

Boston - The very poppy sounding rock band from the 1970s and 1080s. I guess if it doesn't give you that feeling that it gives me, I don't know what to say. The guitar work is top notch, Brad Delp has one of the most amazing voices in rock music, and the song writing in my opinion is just amazing.

King Crimson - a very progressive rock band from back in the 1060s and 1970s. Their debut album is an utter masterwork, and the 3 albums that came after were amazing as well. Their sound changed slightly into a more higher powered sound, but they are still incredible. Even if their first album was their only album, they would be on my list.

[Electric Light Orchestra - Another poppy sounding rock band. They utilize orchestra instruments in their songs and have a very unique sound. An interesting fun fact is they were from Birmingham, England and played at the same time Black Sabbath played. But, these two bands couldn't be more different.

Queen - These guys are music Gods. Brian May's guitar work and Freddie's vocals are superb. I know all of you have heard Queen, and I'm pretty sure you either love them or hate them. I of course am in love with this band. Every album they made as amazing, and it was so... progressive sounding, for lack of a better term. They didn't sound like any other band. Ever.

Blue Oyster Cult - I would consider these guys traditional heavy metal, like Zeppelin, but I'll put them here because a lot of people would disagree. Their themes, too, were dark for the time and their music was probably one of the most gothic sounding things at the time. I would argue that they were a Gothic Metal band, just because so many of their songs were depressive sounding. But this band is fantastic
