in the original version Christmas and st. Nicholas are similar but also quite different.

st. nicholas was a priest or a bishop to be more precise with a kind heart. and the story goes that he helped 3 girls get married with putting the money they needed in their socks, or stockings to be more exact. (sounds familiar?)

and thus the custom of cleaning your shoes and leaving them on the window throughout the nigh because he is a protector of children and sailors.

now the modern Hollywood made st. nick equal to santa clause. and while the gifts on christmas are a symbol of the 3 kings giving baby jesus giftes, st. nick is just sth else.

but it is early in december for "christmas"
