Variety of songs- many songs the vocals sounds very different

Mean sounding or normal growling

as suprising as this sounds, hardcore pantera fans usually have really good taste in metal. they have a download sharing forum on their website and they trade extremely cool music

On the topic of In Flames, I don't like em, I heard all these great things about them and then when I finally got around to listening to them I was extremely disappointed...same thing happened with Cannibal Corpse...

I'm mainly a fan of At the Gate's first album. It is one of my favorite albums I love it. As for their melodic material I like some of the songs but not really that into it.

My favorite melodic death metal bands are:
Amon Amarth
Kalmah
Wintersun

I found all of those "on my own." Every once in a blue moon I do a bit of digging and that's when I make serious progress in musical discovery and taste.

I tried Wintersun, didn't like it in the least.

When I first heard it I thought most of it was pretty lame but then it grew on me. For some reason I like the album 10x better when I play it in a certain order different from the order it is supposed to be played in.

Brute introduced me to Wintersun I believe. In fact, Brute is the reason I'm into anything with growling or screaming vocals.

But, I found about about Norther, Skyfire, Soilwork, Naildown, Stormlord, Equilibrium, Eluveite, Amon Amarth, and Blackguard by myself. All the others on the list I learned about on this here forum

I really enjoy Wintersun, but I guess they're a love or hate band. I'm a huge (HUGE) fan of viking and folk metal, so of course I am in love with their entire album.

Hell, I'd say Folk Metal is my favorite metal genre right now. God I love folk metal....

i like folk metal, too. just not that mass produced artificial fake sounding tripe

For me, I like Wintersun, but alot of people don't. I like them because of the mindblowing solo work.

I guess there's just something about them....

It just mystifies me. It's beauty and wonder and excellence, and of course mind blowing solo work, all in one package. At least for me....

Pantera is f***ing great. And dimebag is a legend thats why everyone says rip. Not even dave mustaine can play the cemetary gates solo right

I was never a pantera fan either. I do like In Flames though.

ok i jest....but i love this genre

i started out listening to MDM and now i find myself going to like...uhhh.....death. and progressive death...and some sort of black-ish stuff
for instance
opeth...long time fave
now i find myself listening to Between the Buried and Me. dude, some albums they have are epic. i also like some tech-death....necrophagist (as per Link's suggestion) is a recent favorite

i like in the MDM realm
